« Sole Mother, Torch of Lab » (11th-12th century), Machik Labdrön was the female master who, inspired by Padampa Sangyé, initiated the Chö (« cutting through ») practice lineage in Tibet—the only Tibetan-conceived practice lineage accepted in India rather than transmitted in the usual direction. At the end of her life, Machik Labdrön settled in Zangri Khangmar, and passed away there.
